Shingles Vaccine

What is Shingles?

Shingles, or Herpes zoster, stems from the same virus that causes Chickenpox. Though Chickenpox are usually found in young children, the virus can stay in the body and resurface years to decades later.

Shingles is a painful skin rash that is caused by a nerve and skin inflammation. The virus is called varicella zoster virus (VZV), a type of Herpes. This Herpes is not the same as the sexually transmitted disease (genital or oral).

Is there a vaccine to prevent Shingles?

Yes, the vaccine (Shingrix) is recommended for adults over the age of 50 who have had chickenpox. Shingrix is more than 90% effective in preventing shingles.

If you are pregnant, have cancer or HIV, the Shingles vaccine should not be taken due to the weakened viral particles that are present in the vaccine.

Our goal is to keep our patients healthy. That’s why it’s our pleasure to offer you our new shingles vaccination clinic.
